1. Glow
Navy Pier gets into the spirit with Pier Pumpkin Lights, featuring jack-o’-lantern towers and glowing light displays spread throughout the 50-acre pier. While you can visit anytime, organizers say the best viewing is after dusk. Dress up as your favorite superhero or villain for Superhero & Cosplay Day (Saturday) which includes a showing of “The Dark Knight.”

2. Dig in
Gardening season is winding down. At the Workshop: Put Your Bed to Bed, you’ll learn about garden clean up, soil health and compost, fall plantings for spring crops and cover crops, as well how to prep your garden for the winter.

3. Dash
Costumes are optional, but comfortable shoes aren’t for the Spooky 3K Walk/Run and Food Drive at Hale. Participants will begin at Hale Park and run, or walk, north to Wentworth Pack before returning to Hale Park.

4. Create
From preparing pulp from plant fibers to pigmenting, pulling sheets of paper, sculpting and drying, in Papermaking and Mimosas with Molly Blumberg you’ll sip some bubbly and make something unique. BYO items you’d like to embed in your paper like confetti or dried flowers. Organizers advise you wear waterproof clothing like a rain jacket or poncho and boots.

5. Purchase
The holiday shopping season ramps up at the Markets for Makers Chicago. More than 90 artisans showcase their wares from art and jewelry to unique threads and skincare products.

6. Stock up
At the Garfield Park Neighborhood Market, you can do your weekly grocery shopping choosing from fresh produce grown in community gardens, baked goods, bath and body products and more.

7. Be festive
Haunted hayrides, a creepy carousel and festive corn maze are among the attractions at Boo at the Zoo. Even the resident animals get into the spirit, with polar and brown bears receiving pumpkins (10:30 a.m. Sunday). While candy stations have been nixed this year to avoid crowds, kiddos will receive treats as they exit the zoo.

8. Stitch
Clothing in need of a little TLC can find new life through the Mending a Life Workshop, which seeks to bring the community to mend together amid the coronavirus pandemic. Thread, needles, buttons, elastic, mending eggs, sewing machine and other supplies will be provided.

9. Howl
Your fur babies can join in on the trick-or-treating fun at Pup-o-ween. No costume necessary, but if your pup enjoys dressing up be sure to register them in the costume contest (open through 11 p.m. Friday). Contest begins at noon Saturday. Prizes will be awarded for scariest, most adorable, most creative, best dog/parent combo and an overall best costume.

10. Unravel
Set a century after the death of Victor Frankenstein, “The Jigsaw Bride: A Frankenstein Story” follows scientist Maria von Moos as she excavates the infamous castle of Dr. Frankenstein and what she finds in her search to uncover one mad man’s secrets.
